After flowering, chrysanthemums will sprout from the base of the plant, ie foot buds. The buds that occur in early autumn tend to grow slightly and can bloom under proper conditions. However, foot buds that occur in late autumn or early winter, ie, winter buds, generally do not extend and become rosettes. Winter buds, whether exposed in warm areas or under moderate temperatures of 10°C, cannot normally elongate and bloom. We call this feature a rosette. Under natural conditions, after winter low temperatures can be automatically lifted, the Yangtze River Valley is generally in early January, and some varieties will not be released until late January.
Allowing the seedlings to receive low temperature treatment is an effective measure to lift the rosette and restore its growth activity. The earrings or rooted seedlings that have entered the rosettes are chilled and refrigerated in a cold storage at 1 to 3°C for more than 40 days. Then, when they are planted in a greenhouse, the phenomenon of rosetting can be released.
