The experimental sheep implanted with the third-generation ventricular assist device with complete independent intellectual property rights in China was named “Tianjiuâ€, meaning that it lasted for a long time. As of May 21, “Tianjiu†has survived healthy for 69 days, setting a record for the longest survival of domestic implanted magnetic-liquid double-suspended blood pumps, which means that China's third-generation ventricular assist device has made a major breakthrough.
It is understood that the research team of the 18th Research Institute of China Academy of Launch Vehicle Technology and the TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital of Aerospace Science and Technology Group pioneered the application of magnetic suspension and dynamic pressure bearing technology in the field of aerospace servo technology to centrifugal blood pumps. Out of China's first third-generation ventricular assist device - magnetic fluid double suspension blood pump. The researchers used rocket technology to make the rotor float in the blood to rotate, pushing the blood in a non-contact manner. The device weighs only 170 grams, has a small volume, low temperature rise, and is easy to implant. It shoots 3 liters per minute and takes on the heart function of the experimental sheep 3/5. The device has completely independent intellectual property rights, fills the domestic gap, and applies for 10 patents. The in vitro hemolysis test showed that the hemolysis index of the device reached the domestic leading and international advanced level.
The wire on the "Tianjiu" is connected to the battery and a controller, and a computer next to it records and displays its heartbeat and blood pump current. On May 13th, “Tianjiu†realized the free movement of carrying batteries and controllers for the first time, and reached the simulated state of clinical implantation of blood pumps. At present, patients have actively requested human test of the device.
According to experts from TEDA International Cardiovascular Hospital, there are about 80 million heart failure patients in the world, and there are more than 16 million heart failure patients in China. For end-stage heart failure, traditional treatment methods have a poor outcome and high long-term mortality. There are no other effective treatments besides circulation assistance and heart transplantation. However, due to the lack of cardiac donors, a large number of patients die while waiting for a heart transplant. In addition, the treatment and care of end-stage heart failure consumes a lot of resources and has become a global medical problem. New technologies will enter clinical research as soon as the end of this year or early next year.
