Comparing the data of 2017 and 2016, and analyzing the changes in the number of drugs in different treatment categories, all No. 1 is a category of anticancer drugs.

The author analyzed the drug in the 16 major therapeutic areas of the Pharmaprojects database and the biotechnology category. In addition to the respiratory system, the number of new drugs in each therapeutic field increased in 2017.

Among them, cancer is still the core area of ​​drug research and development, and the number of anti-cancer/anti-tumor drugs has increased significantly. The number has increased from 4,176 in 2016 to 4,845, and the number of drug candidates has increased by 669, an increase of 16.0%. This growth rate broke the 15.9% history created in 2016 and far exceeded the average growth rate of the 8.0% pharmaceutical R&D industry. In terms of the proportion, almost one-third (32.6%) of the research targets for research and development are tumor diseases.
