According to foreign media Venturebeat, a research team at the University of Southern California and Carlos III in Madrid used artificial intelligence to predict developmental disorders in infants.
The team's researchers published a paper on Arxiv.org that uses the daily exercise data of wearable sensors to predict the infant's motor developmental state and classify the limb movement patterns to predict whether the baby may have neurological deficits in the future.
The team extracted data from data sets provided by the University of Southern California's Infant Neuromotor Control Laboratory, which included motion data collected from accelerometers, gyroscopes, and magnetometers tied to baby's ankles. The researchers manually added features such as age, developmental scores, and developmental tags, and then built prediction models using a number of binary classification algorithms, and finally determined the three best combinations to minimize the bias of any one model. The resulting algorithm performs an operation with a prediction that is very close to the baseline. It is based on sports data to predict developmental delays in the first 6 months of the baby, with an accuracy rate of 83.9%; the accuracy of predicting 6 to 12 months is also as high as 77%.
