Significant progress in research on the pathogenesis of insect-borne diseases

:2018-10-12

On September 19, 2018, Chinese scientists Liu Wei and Cao Wuchun published an article entitled "Arginine deficiency is involved in thrombocytopenia and immunosuppression in severe fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome" in Science publication "Science-Transformation Medicine", and by Science The Science Magazine (AAAS) has a video report for the same period. The innovative research model and scientific findings have brought a new perspective to the study of new infectious diseases such as fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome (SFTS), which has important research significance.

New infectious diseases, especially new infectious diseases, have always been an important issue threatening global public health. SFTS is a new insect-borne disease that was first discovered in China in 2010. The pathogen of the disease is a new type of Phlebovirus belonging to the Phenuiviridae family, known as fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome virus SFTSV. At present, there are reported cases in 25 provinces in China, and the mortality rate is 10%-30%. It poses a huge health threat and medical burden to the people of the epidemic source and the crowds who travel abroad. At present, SFTS has reported cases in neighboring countries such as Japan and South Korea, and the mortality rate is as high as 50%. Due to the widespread distribution of long-horned blood stasis in the media and the high mortality rate after infection, the World Health Organization once listed it as a pathogen requiring priority attention. At present, the pathogenesis of the disease is still unclear, and there is also a lack of effective vaccines and therapeutic drugs, which poses great challenges for disease prevention and control.

Since 2015, Liu Wei and Cao Wuchun from the Military Medical Research Institute have relied on the sentinel hospital of Xinyang City, Henan Province (154 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army), and through the cooperation with Peking University Public Health College, 302 Hospital of the People's Liberation Army, and Tsinghua University School of Pharmacy. Cooperating, case-control study found the characteristic changes of arginine metabolism in the disease; further revealed that the patient's arginine level is closely related to the disease's immunosuppression and thrombocytopenia, and established the arginine whole organism. Utility as a potential for new biomarkers; clarified that arginine supplementation has the ability to adjust corresponding clinical indicators and slightly reduce mortality. This study broadens the understanding of the pathogenesis of fecal disease, such as fever with thrombocytopenia syndrome, and provides an alternative to the diagnosis and treatment of such diseases, with far-reaching implications in this area of research.

Single Packed Mottled Waxy Corn

Waxy corn comes in a variety of colours. Some people wonder if waxy corn is a genetically modified product. In fact, it is not. Waxy corn originated in China. It is caused by a genetic mutation. Artificial selection gradually led to the emergence of a type of tannin.

Waxy corn, also known as waxy corn, is sticky corn. The grain has coarse, waxy endosperm, similar to shiny, glassy (clear) grains such as hard and dented corn. Its chemical and physical characteristics are controlled by a recessive gene (wx), which is located on chromosome 9. 100% of the starch in the endosperm is straight-chain starch.

Coloured glutinous corn is generally white, yellow, red, purple and black, with white, yellow and purple corn being the basic colours. Purple and white hybrids naturally become purple if the purple gene "beats" the white gene and vice versa, so if the two tie we see white and purple corn. Purple can turn into red and black corn, or as we often say, "red is purple and black is purple". Of these colourful corn, the most common yellow waxy corn is the most nutritious as it is rich in carotenoids...

Currently, the only genetically modified foods sold on the Chinese market are soybean oil and papaya. Waxy maize is a hybrid variety and is not associated with genetic modification. Therefore, it can be concluded that glutinous maize is a hybrid variety and has nothing to do with genetic modification.

Genetic modification is a type of "genetic engineering" in modern science and technology, which makes use of modern molecular biology techniques. Hybridisation is the mating of individuals of different genotypes to produce offspring that are different from the original "pure" breed. In a sense, it belongs to the natural exchange of genes that can occur in nature.
