Recently, researchers from the Department of Neurology, Affiliated Hospital of Chengde Medical College published a paper to investigate the value of spiral CT angiography (SCTA) and cervical vascular ultrasound (CVUS) in carotid artery examination in patients with acute cerebral infarction. The study pointed out that SCTA and CVUS have good consistency in evaluating the degree of vascular stenosis, but in the evaluation of carotid occlusion, the accuracy of SCTA is better. The article was published in the 13th issue of Chongqing Medical Journal in 2014.
51 patients with acute cerebral infarction diagnosed by CT or MRI from October 2009 to December 2012 were selected. All 51 patients underwent SCTA and CVUS examinations, and 3 of them underwent cerebral angiography. SCTA and CVUS two methods to detect the advantages and disadvantages of the arterial system in patients with acute cerebral infarction.
41 cases (80.39%) of 51 patients with cerebral infarction were found to have carotid stenosis. The carotid stenosis rate of SCTA and CVUS was calculated according to the North American Symptomatic Carotid Endarterectomy (NASECT), which was 36.54%±15.64, respectively. % and 33.42%±14.72%, the difference was not statistically significant (P>0.05); the detection rate of SCTA plaque was 58.82%, which was significantly better than 29.41% of CVUS, the difference was statistically significant (P<0.05). SCTA and CVUS examination showed that carotid stenosis was mainly concentrated in mild to moderate stenosis. The agreement rate of carotid stenosis was 69.90%. There was no significant difference between the two methods (P>0.05). SCTA diagnosis Three patients with cerebral infarction were completely occluded and confirmed by cerebral angiography, but were diagnosed as moderately stenotic in the CVUS examination.
